The Village

Had a mostly quiet day walking around Placencia Village

There's a main road for cars

                                                                A few side 'streets'

And a bunch of paths and walkways, including this:

The Sidewalk, which was in the Guinness Record Book for narrowest street in the world.

I had an interesting experience while out walking the Sidewalk.  Lee had warned me about a couple of the guys in town.  Don't ya know I found them all and then some!   The sidewalk and paths were pretty empty, but within the span of about 20 minutes I encountered three different Rasta dudes.

The first one was selling cds on the sidewalk.  He called out for me to stop and see what he was selling.  When I didn't he started walking with me asking where I wanted to go.  'No, I'm late for an appointment' seemed to work.

Bachelor #2 was more determined.  He wasn't selling anything...well, at least he didn't have a table set up!  He just came up, asked my name, 'where ya from?', 'whatcha wanna do?'  When I didn't answer and kept walking he ran up behind me saying 'oh you're shy?'.  He pulled a flower off a nearby plant and handed it to me   Then he told me ''come on...ya know ya got de black man style", which almost made me laugh out  loud!  I finally just gave him a look (half a 'kill face') and he backed off.

#3 had much more stealth.  Passing by a little house, I saw this guy on the balcony.  As I went past I noticed  movement out of the corner of my eye.  Don't ya know, here he comes following me.  This is getting annoying - it ain't easy being old and fat...I mean highly attractive (pfft) in the Caribbean!  I walked faster.  He walked faster.  But he didn't say anything, didn't ask my name, where I'm from - which seems to be the usual way.   All of a sudden I heard him right behind me saying,'don't worry lady Belize is safe, Belize is safe'.  All I could think was 'if you get any closer, buddy, it isn't gonna be safe'.  I took a sharp left on the next path toward my house and he didn't follow.

All in all, it's fine.  They're mostly harmless (from what I hear), just aggressively annoying.  It makes me miss Quakertown, where I walk virtually unnoticed!

DAY 3:  Cute town, Rasta dudes, aerobic power walk
